Dairy Queen: A Novel

D.J. Schwenk is not your typical 15-year-old girl. She is a basketball star who runs a family farm on the side. After her father hurt his hip and her older brothers went away to college, she just kind of took over. No one in D.J.'s family is very good at communicating, so she silently stews about the extra work that is keeping her from a "normal," fun teenage existence. When her dad's friend Jimmy sends a player from the rival football team to help out on the farm that summer, D.J. ends up being his personal trainer. During pre-season, she finds her voice... and her passion for playing football! An excellent read for non-girly-girls, or anyone else who likes football. -Hestia
